Of course, it isn't just batting that he is incredibly gifted at. De Villiers is also a capable wicket-keeper, which is a role he has inherited from Mark Boucher with the national side. When he doesn't have the gloves on, he is perhaps even better, having forged a reputation as one of the game's great outfielders. Along with the likes of Faf du Plessis and Sybrand Engelbrecht, he makes sure that the legacy of Jonty Rhodes is not forgotten.
In the field as well as with the bat, AB de Villiers is one of the best I have ever seen.
It is that which makes him so inspirational. Even though I'm a seam bowler, the two cricketers I admire by far the most are Mike Hussey and AB de Villiers. It was de Villiers, in the YouTube clip above and on many other occasions besides, who showed me that absolutely anything was possible in the field if you put your mind to it. I'm sure he also does the exact same thing for young batsmen. A cricketer like AB de Villiers only comes along maybe once or twice in a generation. We should make the most of him.
